Broadcasting build-to-rent – BBC Radio

Today Harry Downes, managing director of Fizzy Living, appeared live on BBC Radio London’s breakfast show to discuss London’s housing challenges with presenter Petrie Hosken.

Appearing as a BBC expert is a highly-coveted opportunity, with stiff competition, so securing a slot requires persistence and creativity. Harry was the ideal candidate on this occasion. Besides being an eloquent and articulate spokesman for the industry as both a developer and private landlord, Harry also believes that the rental experience in London desperately needs ‘reinventing’. Harry, we argued, could make a case not just for PRS, but also for renting as a lifestyle choice (and not a poor substitute to home-ownership).

The show’s producers liked our pitch and we secured the interview for Harry. Convincing him to take up the opportunity took no time at all. But because the show was live, Harry would only have five minutes to make his case. No take-twos, no edits. Any slip-ups could be embarrassing and even damage the Fizzy brand.

First, we fully briefed Harry on all the latest housing announcements the major parties had made in the run-up to their manifesto launches. Second, we listened to Petrie’s show to get an idea of her manner and style of questioning in order to provide Harry with a precis. Third, our MD prepped Harry on messaging and the “dos and don’ts” of live radio.

We live-tweeted during the interview from our company Twitter account (@twobluepr) and Fizzy (@fizzyliving), securing several new followers as a result.

All in all, a great start to the morning and some fantastic exposure for the Fizzy brand. Well done Harry!
